1865 HENRY WARD BEECHER. Carte de Visite from the Civil War Period - As Abolitionist. Irvingite and have certain inherent andVery attractive carte de visite from the Civil War period when Beecher was at his peak in terms of abolitionist influence. His sister, Harriet Beecher Stowe, may have been the "little lady who started the war," but Beecher's eloquence in favor of abolition and the Union, sustained it. Very attractive and crisp; no publication or maker's indication. Rather unusual from the Civil War period. Most are from his later influence as a preacher in the 1870's.
