These are replicas of medieval European bowed lyres, and commonly heard in Viking music today. They have a rather rough sound, and are bowed with a melody note and one or two drones. The tagelharpa has four gut strings, the strakharpa has four strings of artificial tendon, and the bass tagelharpa has three horsehair strings. Sample
